DRT RESCUE WORKSHOP

SINGLE-PITCH DRT (DOUBLED ROPE TECHNIQUE)

If you want to share tree climbing with family and friends but hesitate because of the “what-ifs,” this workshop is for you. We developed the DRT Rescue Workshop in response to requests from several students who want to be prepared to rescue their loved ones should the need arise. Prior to this workshop, we offered rescue training only as part of our Facilitator Program. We realize that not everyone wants to become a professional facilitator, but rescue training is of value to all.

Prerequisite
Basic Tree Climbing Course or TCNW Basic Tree Week
Participants must provide their own personal DRT tree climbing gear (subject to instructor approval)

Minimum number of participants for the workshop to go forward is 3, maximum enrollment is 6. Minimum age for participation is 18 years.

Course Description

The focus of this workshop will be single pitch DRT rescue. Four types of rescue will be presented:
    --Non-Critical Ground Rescue
    --Non-Critical Aerial Rescue
    --Critical Ground Rescue
    --Critical Aerial Rescue

This workshop is designed for technical DRT tree climbing. You will learn how to use special tools designed specifically for rescue. We will cover how to improvise with what you have on your saddle at any moment. We will examine multiple rescue scenarios, from a stubborn climber not wanting to come down to an unconscious climber stuck high aloft. We will address problem solving and challenge your creative thinking.  As with all TCNW classes, you will get plenty of time on rope to practice every scenario.

As a bonus, we will demonstrate multi-pitch DRT and SRT rescues. Training in these will be included in a future Advanced Rescue Workshop that will be open to graduates of this DRT Rescue Workshop.

A certificate will be awarded to each student who successfully completes the workshop.
